Low cost general purpose stainless steel. Wide use where corrosion is not severe. |
| Steel Bar Specifications |
Primary Elements: Stainless Steel 410 is considered the basic martensitic stainless steel. Comprised of between 11.5-13.5 percent Chromium, Iron, along with trace amounts of Carbon, Manganese, Phosphorus, Silicon, and Sulfur, Stainless Steel 410 reaches maximum corrosion resistance when hardened, tempered, and finally, polished. Considered a general-purpose grade, Stainless Steel 410 is delivered in a hardened, but still machinable state, for uses where moderate corrosion resistance and high strength are required. After being heat treated, Stainless Steel 410 exhibits high mechanical properties. Stainless Steel 410 can be welded using most common welding methods; it can be hot worked between 2000 and 2200 degrees Fahrenheit, as well as cold formed and annealed. Stainless Steel 410 is magnetic in hardened and annealed settings.
Features: Stainless Steel 420 is the high carbon content version of Stainless Steel 410. With corrosion resistance similar to Stainless Steel 410, Stainless Steel 420 also provides increased strength and hardness. Considered to be a general-purpose grade, Stainless Steel 420 includes at least 12 percent Chromium, enough to give it acceptable corrosion resistance. Typically, Stainless Steel 420 achieves its best corrosion resistance when the alloy is hardened and polished or surface ground.
One of the more popular uses for Stainless Steel 420 is in the production of cutlery. The corrosion resistance of Stainless Steel 420 is adequate to resist deterioration by use with food and conventional washing and cleaning methods; however, if cutlery constructed of Stainless Steel 420 is not cleaned of food remnants promptly, surface pitting in the knives can occur.
Ratnam Steel carries high-strength iron-chromium martensitic Stainless Steel 410 and Stainless Steel 420
